As promised in a prior post, I have created ratings for players who have been activated from the injured list (and who have also appeared in the MLB since their activation date) based on not only their mean level of performance, but also the consistency of their performances.
Players who are consistently high or mid in terms of their on-field performance are a low-risk of re-injury and worth keeping on your roster (e.g., Spencer Strider, Michael Soroka, Seth Lugo).
Conversely, players who are consistently or somewhat consistently low in terms of their on-field performance are at a greater risk of re-injury and are probably not worth rostering (e.g., Tyler O’Neill, Endy Rodriguez, Corey Seager).
The most interesting group of players are those who are classified as “Inconsistently High Performers.” This week, we only see fielders with this classification, including players like Sean Murphy, Ketel Marte, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. These are players who can win you a matchup one week and lose you a matchup the next. Players with this classification are worth rostering, but owners should be mindful of the increased boom/bust risk.
