It has been a little while since my last post! I’ve been in the data lab cooking up some new, useful reports for the NFL season! What you’ll find here is a report for the Week 2 NFL season specifically examining rushing efficiency for individual players. For those of you who have followed my baseball reports, you’ll know that I am very interested in consistency as it relates to player performance.

Here, I’ve become more granular. The metric I’ve developed, called Relative Rushing Efficiency (RRE), considers a player’s performance on a play-by-play basis. Additionally, it not only considers the yards gained or lost per play and the usage percentage, but also the value of those yards and plays as quantified by the popular “Expected Points Added (EPA)” metric.

So with this metric, you’ll find players that you expect at the top (e.g., Bijan Robinson). But you’ll also find players that you might not expect — those who do more with their carries, and more consistently, than their peers (e.g. Ty Robinson of the Bills moving the ball in critical positions).

Be on the lookout in future weeks for similar reports for receivers, quarterbacks, and kickers to help you evaluate players in fantasy sports and beyond.
